Very interesting question. I have been on both Methadone, and now presently on Suboxone. Personally, I have done 100% better on the Suboxone. I am a former Registered Nurse, but due to multiple health problems, I am now disabled. After the death of my husband in 2005, I began to take the Methadone. Eventually, I started to abuse the Methadone…. To make a long story short, I had to be placed on the Suboxone to get off of the Methadone. I am very lucky to still be alive today, as I was taking an excessive doses of the Methadone combined with Xanax to mask the pain of my husband’s death. It is a personal choice you have to make on your own. As a former health care provider, I feel that the Suboxone is a blessing to those who are interested in getting clean of the addictive drugs that you can easily develop a quick tolerance to, and abuse for the “uphoric effect.” All of the benefits of the Suboxone definitely outweigh the addictive effects of the narcotic drugs I’ve been one to abuse over the past several years. My life is not constantly consumed by looking for the next way I can get my hands on some narcotic to keep from going into withdrawals. With the Suboxone you don’t have to worry about going to a clinic every day, and you can get a monthly subscription from your Suboxone physician. You are required to have monthly urine tests to be checked for any restricted drugs. I feel so much better on the Suboxone, and I am finally getting my life back together… I no longer think of any kind of narcotics, and it does not affect my sex drive. Of course, I am a woman, so I can’t tell you how it might affect a man’s sex drive. If you have concerns about these types of questions, just ask your doctor before you start it. Another thing to consider is whether or not your insurance company will pay for the Suboxone. They are very expensive to buy without insurance coverage. My biggest complaint with the Suboxone is how the health care professionals treat you once they find out you are a “Suboxone patient.” It is like you just told them that you have leprosy… Maybe soon we’ll see a change in some of the restrictions on being on Suboxone. Good luck with your choice. I hope you’ll consider your options, and decide which is the right choice for your health…. Mary
