Why Do Doctors Call People Patients?

Is it because they expect us to be patient as we sit in the waiting rooms staring blankly at the walls closing in on us as they rake in as many people as they can, upping their hourly take?

Sorta, patients has two meanings, one to BE patient… a verb, and the other is to be A patient…. a noun

A paitent means a person that is under medical care, or that undergoes some action. so they say that because they dont know there names and its easier then saying, I need to help my next person that undergoes some action and needs medical care.
