I Want to Know if Any Doctor Will Accept Me Back Into the Program?
Question by kristen: I want to know if any doctor will accept me back into the program?
I need some honest opinions please no negative feedback. I wad part of the suboxone program for the first time in march thru may.then for reasons beyond my control I had to stop going and turned back to using.until August when I went back to the doctor and resumed treatment then once again I had to stop going because my funding fell thru.and now I want to once again resume treatment since I am in a more stable stage in my life.my question is do you think that any doctor will except me back into the program?

Well I think two things:
First, Addicts relapse all the time. In fact with opiates it happens more often than not and it’s big percentage, something like 90% of all users relapse after trying to quit. So if you went to treatment, then stopped, then went back, then stopped…you are not the first person to do that and the people running the treatment centers know that. Your doctor knows that starting and stopping treatment is common. So for that reason, yes I think a doctor will put you back in a program.
But…Second – Drug treatments like these cost money, not for just the meds, but the follow up and monitoring and staffing etc. Programs don’t want to “waste” money, time and effort on someone who doesn’t seem serious about quitting. Even if you are serious about breaking whatever addiction you have, it might not look like you are with the starting and stopping. Also Suboxone is habit forming itself and can have withdrawal effects if you just stop taking it. Most doctors taper people off of it to reduce that. That said, it can look like you are just trying to get a fix by.going and starting on it and stopping. Methadone users do that, when they can’t afford heroin, they sign up for a program, get little money…go back to heroin…run out of money…methadone… and so on.
I think, if you are serious about quitting and really are in a more stable situation, then go see your doctor and explain to them your situation. Be honest and bring info about your living situation, family, school or job, etc. Be prepared to hear “no” and if you do, find another doctor or program until you hear “yes” Good luck and keep at it!! 🙂
