Of course it’s helpful. Methadone, too, is a narcotic.

Honestly, I think methadone is just as bad as any drug.
It’s essentially a numbing/ masking agent that dulls perceptions and cravings for any user. It’s very much like treating one drug problem through the use of another drug. But it doesn’t eradicate the fundamental issues and psychological dependencies that led to the drug usage in the first place. And what happens when an addict leaves a methadone clinic?
They won’t change unless they receive counseling and proper mental health treatment as well as removal from their addictive chain of behaviors.
People can easily become addicted to methadone too. It reduces sensations and heals the underlying pain associated with withdrawal.
I for one believe counseling is the way to go, but the clinics will probably remain open until the government realizes that methadone is an ineffective method of detoxification.
