Painkiller Addiction: IF You’ve Been There Personally, or Have Credible Knowledge of Same, Can You Answer This?

Question by Me-OW! “Ah’ll Be Bach!”: Painkiller Addiction: IF you’ve been there personally, or have credible knowledge of same, can you answer this?
I have a VERY good Friend, we’ll call her Sheree, 44, who has been taking Painkillers daily for over 6 months. These pills consist of mainly Hydrocodones, “Vicodin” and similar derivatives, as well as occasional “supplements” of Soma and Norcos. Sheree does indeed have some painful afflictions for which she requires these Painkillers, (Kidney Stones, Bladder Infections, Ovarian Cysts, & more.) She begins taking them when she awakens, then every 2-3 hours, throughout the day. In addition, Sheree also ingests a daily regime of Xanex & Carisoprodol pills for “anxiety” issues, in the morning and throughout the day.
When I expressed concern to Sheree that she might become addicted, she was quite adamant that she #1, was NOT addicted, and #2, would know IF she was addicted to either pill regime!
I have only recently learned that Carisoprodol is, alone and by itself, very addictive.
MY QUESTION: In your opinion, are the odds good that Sheree IS addicted to the Painkillers???
If so, what can she do about it, per a semi-painless “Detox”? She is a single mother w/3 children.

If she’s been taking this many different pills for over 6 months then the odds are pretty good that she’s addicted. And if she is, she would not admit it; she might not even realize it yet (denial). I’m curious as to why antibiotics haven’t been used for her bladder infections (and if so, why they haven’t cured her)? That sounds a bit suspicious. The same for the cysts and kidney stones – why don’t they remove them? Are you sure she really has all these ailments? As for anxiety pills, if she actually needs them most doctors normally prescribe only one, and only for 2 -3 times a day – not all day long. I don’t know how she functions! I cannot imagine one doctor prescribing this many pills for her; it sounds as if she’s using multiple doctors to obtain them.

Detox may not be as bad as you fear. However, if she is addicted, admits it and wants to stop, she should consult a doctor first regarding how to do it. She may need treatment to get through it but they can sometimes do outpatient. At the very least, she should have a doctor give her a plan to wean off these pills.

Good luck.
