Aside from methadone, what are the other drugs used to treat heroin addiction?

colleen_li asked:

I was just wondering since I’ve heard that methadone is also addictive. What are the other alternatives?

The best way to detox from Oxycontin?

mitchyb10 asked:

I am in my 20’s and I have already detoxed from Oxycontin once in my life cold turkey… I stayed off it for 2 years. I relapsed eventually and hit it harder than ever. I used to just pop the pills up to 200mg a day. This time I am up to about 640mg a day and I am snorting the pills. Lately I have been decreasing my dosages. I have taken only 240mg today and that is all that i’m going to take…. I know it’s still a lot but it is an improvement for me. I have trouble finding ways to get off the oxys and it is starting to get depressing. I know I need help this time around and I am seeking it with no success.

I call rehab facilities in my city and province. I live in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. The rehab facilities cost a lot of money here and I don’t have that kind of cash to put towards it. There is the methadone program which most doctor’s will recommend to me. I am against the methadone program (no offense to anyone it’s just not for me) so I am not interested in going to that. I can barely hang on weaning myself off… there are times when it gets so hard and when you have the opportunity to open your pill bottle then you will do it. I take them for recreational purposes and I snort them (not proud).

I know in some parts of the world, USA included, that there is a suboxone treatment and they say that works great… I don’t know if they have that here in Canada but I know that there is a lot of other medications that help.

My question is….

- – -Is there anything I can do to help myself get off the oxys?

- – -What is the best method for getting off them?

- – -Anything to help me sleep during the night that is non habit forming?

***(sleep is important for me… i lack sleep during withdrawls and it increases my agitation and hysteria when withdrawling)***

- – -Any and all other tips, tricks, help, ANYTHING at all… to put in your post please do….

I can take criticism but please I am here to get the opinions of people that have been through this or are currently going through it. What else can you say to me that I don’t already know? Yes i’m an addict… yes im stupid… yes i need to get off them…yes i fucked up my life… yes it sucks but get on with your life just like I’M TRYING to get on with mine :)

Good luck to everyone going through a rough time
there’s alight at the end of the tunnel i think… it may look like a spec right now.. but it will get bigger soon

thanks for your time,

mb

What do you think about using methadone for opiate addiction?

jessica asked:

It works wonderfully for my herion addiction and I don’t want to go off of it since I know I’d immediately start using again. So many people consider it a “heroin substitute”. However, I DO NOT get high on it and it is medically controlled so when taken correctly, there is little risk of an overdose. Not to mention all the awful things that go along with heroin addiction like the risk of contaminated needles, drugs laced with deadly substances, doing illegal things to get your “fix”, and the fact that you will eventually end up dead or in prison. The problem is that I still have problems with alcohol and cocaine and methadone DOESN’T help with those addictions. I want to get help for all my substance problems but almost all rehabs are VERY AGAINST Methadone. I don’t want to be on Methadone the rest of my life. I will eventually wean myself off (VERY SLOWLY) so that I don’t get sick (it is addictive like heroin). Any thoughts about this? Please be kind. This is rough!

Wife of a Drug Addict?

help_for_u&me asked:

I have been married to my husband for 5 years and with him for 6. He is an iraqi war vetaran and also a very serious drug addict. In the past couple of months he has stolen from his best friend, mother, my parents, my cousin, his best friend since childhood, and even got arrested for possession of stolen property after trying to pawn some of those items. He is currently in a treatment facility (since the last week) and will be there for 45 days. The only problem is that he doesnt seem like he is serious and automatically wants to get on the methadone program without first trying the program without drugs. I do not feel in my heart that he is really serious about treatment. Do I stick by him and see if he is really serious with the risk of losing my sanity? I am a full time student and there is no income coming in the home. Or do I leave him? We have 2 children 1.5 years and 8 years old. Please help!
