Do you know someone that has overdosed on drugs and how did it affect you and those around you?
I know a lot of people who use Heroin. I am a recovering addict that is in the Methadone program. I know a lot of people that have died from it. I don’t know how many times that I’ve been around people that have almost overdosed. It’s scary. What is even more scary is that these people continue to use (I was one of them) in spite of the risk of death! And it’s a great risk! Yes, the high is great. It is even better than sex. I miss that feeling. Luckily, Methadone doesn’t allow me to get high off of Heroin so that is a strong deterrant. The other deterrant is that I don’t want to die. Two people very close to me almost died last weekend and I gave them CPR to revive them. They both admitted that they would do it again. How can I get them not to? I don’t think a lot of society realizes what an epidemic Heroin is epecially with younger and younger people getting hooked. It is very addictive and very painful and terrifying to come off of and this is why an addict (cont’d)
will often do anything for the fix. It’s not just the high, the addict is so scared of the sickness associated with withdrawl. It is Hell. You feel like you are going out of your mind. I’d rather break both my legs and arms. I can’t believe we lock up addicts without something like Methadone to ease the pain. It is cruel and unusual punishment. You wouldn’t allow an officer to beat up a criminal and throw them in jail so why would you let them suffer like this? Who do you talk to to try to get the laws changed regarding this?
